New next to old, on the same street
An area that filled in gradually ends up with builder floors and small apartment blocks standing beside houses that predate all of it. That's the situation here, and it means the phrase 'a 2 BHK in Kallumthazham' describes two completely different jobs depending on which building you're in.
The newer stock is easier: reachable approaches, sometimes a lift, and a load that comes down without much drama. The older houses are the familiar Kerala pattern of compound walls, car-width gates, no lift and an internal staircase that turns at the landing, where everything large comes apart in the room first.
So the survey asks which you're in before it asks anything else, because the vehicle, the crew size and the hours all follow from that rather than from the bedroom count.
Approach roads and what they hold
Where the building is recent, the road serving it is sometimes still catching up. That's a common pattern in any area that grew quickly, and after a wet spell the surface on a newer approach can be poor enough that putting a loaded truck on it is a bad idea rather than a brave one.
We check the approach at survey rather than sending a driver to discover it. Where a full-size vehicle shouldn't be on it, a smaller tempo comes to the door and shuttles to a larger truck standing on firmer ground. That handling goes into the quote up front instead of appearing on the day.
Addresses out this way can also be harder to find than they should be, because building has outpaced the maps. A landmark and a live location at booking saves the crew circling on your time.
Timing, and the wet half of the year
Away from the centre the pressure to load at first light is milder — there's no market filling the street at ten. Early is still better for a full day's work, but the window is more forgiving here than around Chinnakada.
Weather is the real scheduling factor. Kollam catches both the south-west and north-east monsoons, so a long stretch of the year is genuinely weather-dependent, and a newer approach road softens faster than an established one. Waterproof outer covers go on as standard through those months, and if the forecast is poor we'd rather move your slot than load in it.
If your date is flexible, December to March is comfortably easier.
There is one more thing about newly built pockets that is worth knowing before you commit to a date. If your block handed over recently, the service lift may not be commissioned yet even though it exists, and the association that would normally issue a gate pass may not have formed. In that case it is the builder's site office you are dealing with, not a secretary, and a job that looked like a lift move is really a walk-up. A phone call to the site office before you book settles it and changes both the crew we send and the price you are quoted.
What a Kallumthazham move costs
Local household moves land in the ranges below: roughly ₹2,500 to ₹6,000 for a single room, ₹4,000 to ₹9,000 for a 1 BHK, ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for a 2 BHK and ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 for a 3 BHK, with larger houses from about ₹18,000.
Volume sets the vehicle and the crew, then the approach and the floor, then how much of the packing you hand over. With housing this mixed, a number given without seeing the building means very little. The free video survey takes minutes and the figure it produces is the one on the GST invoice.
