Furniture that needs time rather than muscle
The distinguishing feature of a Kowdiar move is what's in the house. Rosewood and teak almirahs, dining tables built as single pieces, writing desks, four-poster beds, glass-fronted cabinets that have not been moved since they were carried in. None of it is flat-pack and none of it forgives being rushed.
The difference between a careful lift and a hurried one on a piece like that is the difference between a scratch and a split panel, and a split panel on a fifty-year-old cabinet is not something that gets repaired invisibly. So these jobs get more people and more hours than the volume alone would suggest, and the quote reflects that honestly rather than pretending a 3 BHK is a 3 BHK everywhere.
Where something genuinely will not come through a doorway in one piece, it gets dismantled properly, fittings bagged and taped to the piece they came off, and reassembled at the other end by the same hands.
Wide roads, deep compounds
Access here is the opposite of most of the city. The roads are generous and a full-size truck reaches the gate without difficulty, which sounds like it makes everything easy. What it doesn't solve is the distance from the gate to the front door, which on a large compound can be considerable, and every carton crosses it twice.
Old gateposts are also frequently narrower than the road suggests, built when a car was the largest thing anyone expected to bring in. Where the truck has to stand outside, the carry gets longer again. That's crew hours and it is most of what a local move actually costs, so the surveyor paces it rather than eyeballing it.
Mature trees are worth a mention too. Low branches over a driveway can rule out a high-sided vehicle even where the width is fine.
Packing a house that has been lived in
Houses like these hold more than the room count implies, and a lot of it is fragile. Crockery that only comes out for occasions, framed pictures, mirrors, glass-fronted cabinets with the glass still in them. Those go into padded cartons of their own rather than filling gaps around heavier things, and they are marked so they ride on top of the load with nothing stacked on them.
Full packing usually wants the day before the move rather than the morning of it. On a house of this size, trying to pack and load and deliver inside one day is how things get broken, and we would rather tell you that at the survey than have you discover it at nine in the evening.
What a Kowdiar move costs
The published ranges still apply, but a good share of the work here lands at the upper end or above it. Roughly ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for a 2 BHK, ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 for a 3 BHK, and from about ₹18,000 for a larger house or villa. A full bungalow with heavy period furniture generally sits above those, for good reasons that get itemised.
Volume, the carry from door to vehicle, and the amount of careful dismantling are what move the figure here. Distance barely features. Everything is settled at a free survey, in person where the load justifies it, and the amount you approve is the amount on the GST invoice.
