How the price is actually built

Ask three movers what a 2 BHK costs in Lakshmipura and you'll get three numbers, all of them confident and none of them worth much. That's because the BHK count is roughly the least useful thing anybody can know about your move. It tells you nothing about what floor you're on, whether the staircase turns, how far the truck has to stand from your door, or how much of what you own is fragile.

The figure is really built from four things. Volume, which decides the truck size and how many people we send. Access at both ends, which decides how many hours those people spend carrying. How much of the packing you hand over. And the date, because a month-end Saturday costs more than a Wednesday in the middle of the month, everywhere in this city.

Everything else is detail.

Why we survey before quoting

The survey exists to turn those four unknowns into a number that holds. It's free, it carries no obligation, and it takes about fifteen minutes on a video call or a little longer if we come to you. The surveyor walks the rooms, counts the floors, looks at the staircase and the doorways, checks where a vehicle can actually stand, and asks what you want packed versus what you'll do yourself.

Then the quote goes out in writing, itemised, so you can see what the packing costs against the labour against the vehicle. If a line looks like something you'd rather do yourself, take it off and the number comes down.

That written figure is what appears on the GST invoice when the job is finished. Not a version of it, the same one. It's a low bar and it's remarkable how much of this trade doesn't clear it.

The ranges, honestly

For a local move inside Bangalore: about ₹2,500 to ₹6,000 for a single room or a few items, ₹4,000 to ₹9,000 for a 1 BHK, ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for a 2 BHK, ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 for a 3 BHK, and from roughly ₹18,000 for a villa or a 4+ BHK. Those are wide bands deliberately, because the same 2 BHK can genuinely sit at either end depending on access.

Intercity from Bangalore starts near ₹9,000 for a small load and climbs with home size and route, on a shared or a dedicated truck. Shared costs less because the vehicle fills with other consignments going the same way, dedicated goes straight from your door to the new address and suits a fixed handover date.

Use the bands to budget. Book the survey for a figure you can actually plan around.

Where the cheap quote goes wrong

A number given on the phone is a guess, and guesses get corrected in the direction that suits whoever made them. The usual pattern is a low figure to win the booking, then additions on the day for the floor, the carry, the packing materials, or a second trip because the vehicle sent was too small.

By the time that happens your furniture is on a truck and your negotiating position is gone. That's not an accident, it's the business model.

We'd rather quote higher and be right. If our written figure is above somebody else's phone figure, ask them to put theirs in writing after a survey and see whether it stays where it was.

There is one more thing worth checking that almost nobody asks about, and it is who actually turns up. Some of the cheapest quotes in this city come from an office that books the job and then sells it on to whichever crew is free that morning, which means the people handling your furniture have no relationship with the price you agreed and no particular reason to protect it. Ask whether the crew is the company's own. It is a short question and the answer tells you a great deal about what the rest of the day will look like.
