Local moves, local rhythm
The pattern here is different to the city areas. Families move within the town, or in from a nearby village, or out to a plot they've built on. Distances are short, the loads are often full households rather than bachelor flats, and the schedule is set by what the household can manage rather than by a lease ending on the 31st.
That means more flexibility on dates than a city move usually allows, and it's worth using. Away from the town's busier days a crew can work without competing for the road, and a job that would take a full day in traffic finishes comfortably.
It also means the town centre is the thing to plan around rather than a highway. On a market day the streets through the middle are not somewhere to be standing a truck, and our local partner knows which days those are far better than any schedule we could look up.
Full households, and what they hold
Houses here tend to have been lived in properly and for a long time, which means volume. A room count under-describes what's actually in a settled family home, and a good share of it is solid wooden furniture built before anyone thought about whether it would fit down a staircase.
Those pieces get time rather than force. Anything that comes apart safely is dismantled in the room, wrapped in blankets and put back together at the other end, with fittings bagged and taped to the piece they came from. Where something genuinely won't clear a doorway, that gets found at the survey rather than discovered with a crew on either side of it.
For a full house, plan on two days rather than one — packing properly takes a day of its own. Any mover promising to pack, load and deliver a settled family home inside a single day is describing what you'd like to hear rather than what happens.
Access, gates and the walk
Outside the centre there's generally room to work: plots have space, roads take a proper vehicle, and there's somewhere to stand a truck without obstructing anybody. That's a real advantage over the tighter parts of Kollam city and it should show up in what you're quoted.
The limiting factor, as almost everywhere in Kerala, is the compound gate rather than the road. Gateposts built for a car mean the truck stands outside and the carry from the front door gets longer, which is crew hours and therefore most of the cost. The surveyor paces that instead of estimating it.
Lifts effectively don't exist here, so a two-storey house is a two-storey carry. That's normal and it's counted at survey.
What a Karunagappally move costs
Local household moves fall in the ranges below: roughly ₹2,500 to ₹6,000 for a single room, ₹4,000 to ₹9,000 for a 1 BHK, ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for a 2 BHK and ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 for a 3 BHK, with larger houses from about ₹18,000. Full family homes here often sit at the upper end simply because of what's in them.
Volume sets the vehicle and the crew, then the gate and the floors, then the packing. A move into Kollam city adds the run in both directions plus the crew travelling out to reach you, and that gets itemised rather than hidden in a total.
