Bike Shifting in Bangalore

Most bike shifting requests in this city come from people who are not moving house at all. An IT contract ends and the bike has to go back to Hyderabad. A student finishes at a college in Yelahanka and the scooty goes home with them. Somebody buys a used Classic in Jayanagar and needs it brought across to Whitefield without putting three hundred kilometres of city traffic through a clutch they have not tested yet.

Professional handling Transparent pricing

So this page is about the Bangalore side of the job specifically: where we pick up, what the societies here will and will not allow, and what actually moves the price. The mechanics of how a bike is wrapped and strapped are on the bike transportation page, and worth a read before you book.

Pickup from a Bangalore apartment is the fiddly part

Getting a bike out of a gated society here takes more coordination than the transport does. Most associations will not let a carrier truck into the basement, the ramp clearance is wrong and the turning circle is worse, so the bike has to be brought up to the gate or to a visitor bay and loaded on the road outside. That is fine, it just needs a security desk that knows you are expecting it.

Where the truck cannot stop outside at all, and on some of the narrower roads off Sarjapur and around Hennur it genuinely cannot, we ride or push the bike to a wider point nearby and load there. Tell us the society name when you book and we will work out which of those it is rather than discovering it on the morning.

One practical thing. If the bike has been standing for months, which is normal for a machine somebody is finally sending home, mention it. A bike that will not start is loaded differently and it is easier for everyone if the crew arrives knowing that.

Within the city, or out of it

Shifting a bike inside Bangalore is a short job and it is priced like one. It is worth doing on a carrier rather than riding it when the bike is newly bought and untested, when it is not registered to you yet, or when the two addresses are the far ends of the city and the alternative is two hours in traffic on a machine you do not know.

Out of the city is the more common booking, and there the bike joins a carrier heading that way. Chennai, Hyderabad and the Kerala routes run often enough that the wait is usually short. Smaller towns take longer to fill a carrier, which is the honest reason a bike to a district town can sit a few days longer than one to a metro.

Paperwork, and the bit people forget

Carry a copy of the registration certificate and your own ID, and if the bike is not in your name bring something showing why you have it. That is not us being difficult, a carrier crossing a state border with a two-wheeler that has no matching paperwork is a checkpoint conversation nobody wants.

Take the accessories off before the crew arrives. Phone mounts, saddle bags, a top box, the aftermarket mirror you paid too much for, they are all better in your bag than on a bike travelling with others. And empty the storage under the seat, helmets and documents go missing from there more often than anything else in this business.

Across The City

Bike Shifting in Bangalore by zone

East Bangalore

The heaviest area for bikes leaving the city, mostly IT tenants going home at the end of a contract. Loading is at the gate almost everywhere here and the big societies want the slot booked with the facility desk a day ahead.

South Bangalore

Plenty of second-hand bikes moving short distances within this belt. The roads take a carrier truck fine, but the inner lanes of Koramangala and HSR are tight enough that we often load from the main road rather than outside the door.

North Bangalore

Student scootys around the Yelahanka colleges, and airport-side tenants moving out. Access is generally the easiest in the city here, wider roads and newer layouts.

West Bangalore

Older, denser streets where a full-size carrier cannot always get close. We usually load these from a nearby main road, and morning slots work far better than afternoon ones.

What Moves The Price

Why two quotes for the same size flat differ

Where it is goingA bike moving inside Bangalore and one going to Guwahati are not remotely the same job. Distance is the biggest single factor.
Scooter or motorcycleA scooty is lighter and packs into a carrier more easily than a heavy cruiser, so it usually costs a bit less on the same route.
Shared or dedicatedWaiting for a carrier going your way is the cheap option. Wanting it to leave on your date rather than ours costs more.
Access at pickupA bike we can load at the gate is quicker than one that has to be brought out of a basement and down a service road.
Whether it runsA bike that starts and rolls loads in minutes. One that has to be pushed up a ramp takes longer and needs more hands.
FAQ

Bike Shifting in Bangalore, answered

Within the city it is a short-distance job and priced accordingly. Out of the city it follows the route, whether you want a shared or a dedicated slot, and whether it is a scooty or a heavy motorcycle. Tell us the pickup society and the destination and you will get one firm figure in writing on GST rather than a range.

We collect the bike from wherever it is standing, but the carrier itself almost never comes into a Bangalore basement, the ramp and the headroom are against it. The crew brings the bike up to the gate or a visitor bay and loads it there. Give us the society name and we will tell you in advance which it will be.

Yes, and they are a big share of what leaves this city, particularly around the colleges in Yelahanka and north Bangalore. A scooter is wrapped and strapped the same way as a motorcycle and normally costs slightly less on the same route because it is lighter and easier to fit.

Often, yes. If the bike is newly bought and you have not tested it, if it is not registered to you yet, or if the two addresses are opposite ends of the city, putting it on a carrier is the safer call. For a short hop across one zone on a bike you know well, riding it is honestly fine and we will say so.

A copy of the registration certificate and your ID. If the bike is not registered in your name, bring something that shows why it is with you, a sale receipt or a letter from the owner. Carriers crossing state borders do get checked and matching paperwork saves a long delay.

Inside the city it is same-day. To Chennai, Hyderabad or the Kerala routes the wait for a carrier is usually short because we run them often. Smaller towns take longer to fill a vehicle, so those can sit a few extra days, and we would rather tell you that at booking than let you find out.
