Bike Shifting in Kadugodi

Kadugodi's newer layouts are lovely in March and a different place in September. Some of the lanes off the Whitefield to Hoskote stretch still haven't had their first coat of asphalt, and a couple of days of proper rain turns them into the kind of mud a carrier has no business driving into. If your bike is parked in one of those lanes and the move falls in the monsoon, that's the thing we plan around first.

It's very rarely a reason to put the move off. It just means picking the hour, picking the spot where the carrier waits on solid road, and getting the bike from your gate to that spot without dragging it through a puddle the length of the street. A bit of thought the day before and the rain becomes a nuisance rather than a problem.

When the layout lane turns to slush

The established pockets near the main road are fine in any weather. It's the self-built side, the rented floors and new independent houses further in, where the road can still be gravel and red earth. Once it's wet a loaded vehicle sinks, and a bike being wheeled through it picks up mud right up to the engine, which then hides any scratch you'd want to see on the condition photos.

So on a rainy week we keep the carrier on the nearest paved road and the crew walks the bike out. If the lane is bad enough that walking it is a mess too, the crew rides it out slowly in first gear instead, with your say-so. Either way we'll ask you to send a short video of the lane on the morning of the pickup, because the same street can be fine on Tuesday and a pond on Wednesday.

Morning is usually the better bet in the monsoon here. The heavier showers tend to come later in the day and a pickup at seven or eight has the best chance of a dry hour, it also keeps the carrier ahead of the office traffic on Whitefield Road.

Keeping the bike dry, and what happens to a wet one

A bike doesn't mind rain. What it doesn't love is being wrapped while it's dripping. When it arrives at the carrier soaked, the crew wipes it down, the seat in particular, before the layers go on, otherwise the water sits under the wrap for the whole trip and you open it up to a damp, musty seat. It adds a few minutes and nobody minds.

If you can, park it somewhere covered the night before. A porch, a stilt, even under a neighbour's car port. It sounds small. It's the difference between a bike that gets photographed and wrapped straight away and one that has to dry off first.

And check the brakes once it's delivered and before you ride off. That's sensible advice after any long trip on a carrier, more so when the bike was loaded wet.

Scooter shifting from the newer Kadugodi layouts

A lot of the households in these new layouts have a scooter as the everyday runabout for the shop and the metro station, and it's usually the one that ends up moving first. Scooters are low, which matters in the rain, the floorboard and the underside pick up far more splash than a motorcycle does, so we're a bit more careful about where we walk one.

Otherwise scooty shifting is the same job as moving a motorcycle. It's wrapped, padded at the handlebar and mirrors, and strapped so it stands on its own, and because it's lighter it usually costs a touch less for the same route. Take everything out from under the seat first, a monsoon scooter always seems to have a raincoat stuffed in there.

Bike and two wheeler transport from Kadugodi, and the crossing

Kadugodi sits on a quiet advantage for anything leaving the city. The carrier joins the highway at Hoskote without having to go back into Bangalore at all, which makes Chennai and Hyderabad straightforward runs, and the Kerala routes go often enough that there's rarely much of a wait.

The one local snag is the railway level crossing. A closed gate can hold a queue long enough to wreck a tight pickup slot, so wherever the drop point allows we plan the route on the side of the crossing that keeps the carrier moving.

For a trip out of the state, keep a copy of the RC and your ID with the bike and the originals with you. If it's registered to someone else, a note from them or the sale receipt does the job. The delivery date is fixed before loading and the price arrives as a single written number on GST once we've seen the bike, a video call is fine.

Household and bike together

If you're moving house in the same week the bike can go on the household vehicle under one quote. The Kadugodi packers page covers the house side, including how the lanes and the crossing affect a full truck.

Send a video of the lane that morningIn the monsoon the state of a Kadugodi layout road changes overnight. A short clip lets the crew decide where the carrier stands before they set off.
Park it under cover the night beforeA bike that arrives dry is photographed and wrapped straight away. A wet one has to be wiped down first.
Ask for the earliest slotRain tends to build through the day and Whitefield Road fills up from mid-morning, so an early pickup dodges both.

FAQ

Bike and Scooty Shifting in Kadugodi, answered

It's priced on the destination and the bike. A local hop to Hoodi or Whitefield is a small job, a run to Chennai or Hyderabad costs more. Show us the bike and the lane on a video call and you'll get one written price on GST.

Yes, we do it all through the monsoon. The carrier waits on paved road, the bike is walked or carefully ridden out to it, and it's wiped down before it's wrapped so no water gets trapped under the layers.

We won't send it down a road that's turned to mud. It stands on the nearest solid stretch and the crew brings the bike to it. Send us a video of the lane and we'll tell you where that will be.

Yes. A scooty is wrapped and strapped like any other bike and is usually slightly cheaper to send. In wet weather we're careful with the floorboard, which picks up more splash than a motorcycle.

Both are regular runs. From Kadugodi the carrier goes straight onto the highway at Hoskote, so it doesn't have to cross Bangalore first.

Yes, the Kerala routes run often. If the destination is a smaller town the wait for a carrier heading there can be longer, and we'll say so when we quote.

It can if we're careless about the route. Where the meeting point allows, we plan the carrier's approach so it doesn't sit in the crossing queue.

Not really worth it if the lane is muddy, it'll be dirty again by the time it reaches the road. Parking it under cover overnight helps far more.

Look it over against the pickup photos, then try the brakes before riding off, particularly if it was loaded wet. Tell us there and then if anything doesn't look right.

As low as you can manage. It gets drained before it goes on the vehicle, so there's no sense filling up in the last week.
