Packers and movers in Okalipuram are working the belt around the big flyover where Magadi Road and the Chord Road side meet, a short reach from the city railway station and Majestic. It's an old, working part of town, part residential and part trade, with hardware, timber and goods yards mixed in among the houses. What we shift here is mostly compact homes, small independent houses and ageing two- and three-floor blocks, on lanes that branch off some of the busiest junctions in the west of the city.

The surveyor reads the building first. A lot of these blocks run three and four floors without a lift, so stair carry is a real slice of the day, and the older staircases turn tight at each landing. Wardrobes and fridges usually have to come apart to make that turn, and we'd sooner plan it at the survey than find out on the stairs.

Okalipuram's traffic is the thing to plan around. The flyover carries a heavy through-load and the roads underneath and around it clog for long stretches, well beyond the normal office peaks, because the goods traffic and the station-bound crowd never really stop. A loaded truck caught in that isn't slow, it's stuck, so we load early and get the vehicle moving before the junctions thicken for the day.

The standing spot needs sorting too. Many of the residential lanes are narrow and the kerb is taken by parked vehicles and shop loading, so we scout ahead and, where a lane won't take a full-size truck, we bring a smaller tempo to the door and shuttle to where the big vehicle can wait clear of the junction.

For a local shift staying nearby, over to Gandhi Nagar, Rajajinagar or Srirampura, the drive itself is short, it's the timing across the junctions that decides how the day runs.

What a move here costs

The city ranges hold, roughly ₹4,000 to ₹9,000 for a 1 BHK, ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for a 2 BHK, and ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 for a 3 BHK, set by the floor, the lift and how much packing you hand us. A ground-floor 1 BHK moving locally sits low. A third-floor walk-up with a full house of furniture is higher.

In Okalipuram the number rides on the stairs and the access far more than the distance. A no-lift block hand-carried down four flights is more crew and more hours than a house the tempo can pull up to, even a couple of streets apart. That's why we survey before quoting, on video or in person, and put a firm figure in writing, so the GST invoice at the end reads the same as what we told you.

Small flats, trade moves and holding stock

Plenty of the homes here are compact, single rooms, bachelor 1 BHKs, PG shifts, and we price those flat on a quick video call, a tempo and two crew with materials included. Being this central, they're usually a same-day job start to finish.

The trade side brings its own work. Small shops and stores off the main roads shift over weekends or after hours so they lose no selling day, and we plan those around the loading access and whatever hours the building keeps. Stock boxed and labelled, racks and counters back where they belong before the shutters go up again.
