Bike Shifting in Thubarahalli

In the older part of Thubarahalli, a few turns in from Varthur Road, a lot of families still bring the bike inside at night. It's wheeled over the front step into the hall or a passage, the door is shut, and that's where it sleeps. Nobody thinks twice about it until moving day, when the same bike has to come back out over that step without scraping the door frame or leaving a black mark on the floor.

It's a two-minute job if the crew knows it's coming and a tense ten minutes if they don't. So when you book, tell us where the bike actually lives. Indoors, in a passage, under the stairs, in the compound behind the gate. It changes who we send and what they bring.

Getting the bike out of the house

Most of these village-side houses have a raised threshold, a step or two up from the lane, and a doorway that is only just wider than the handlebars. The crew lays a board or a thick mat over the step, turns the handlebar so the mirror clears the frame, and rolls the bike out slowly with one person at the front and one at the back. If the mirrors are the screw-on kind, it's often easier to take them off first and pack them separately.

Floors get protected too. A bike that's been kept indoors for years usually has a little oil on the underside, and a tyre that's just come off a damp lane will mark a light tile. We put down a sheet along the route.

If the bike is under a staircase or in a narrow side passage, it may need turning on its stand before it can come out at all. That's slow work in a tight space. Say so at booking and we'll send an extra pair of hands.

From the lane to the carrier

The interior lanes in Thubarahalli are too narrow for a carrier to stop in, a full-size vehicle wedged in there helps nobody and annoys every neighbour on the street. So the carrier waits out on Varthur Road or the Thubarahalli main road, on whichever stretch is wide enough, and the bike is wheeled or ridden there by the crew.

That walk is where timing matters. Varthur Road fills from about eight on weekday mornings with traffic heading for Kundalahalli Gate and ITPL, and a carrier trying to stand on the roadside at nine is in everybody's way. We go early, ideally before half past seven, or on a Sunday morning when the road is quieter.

Share a pin of the house. Addresses in the old village are not always where a map thinks they are.

On the main-road side of Thubarahalli it's simpler. The newer complexes there have basements and a security desk, and the bike comes up the ramp to the carrier at the gate. Even then, let the desk know a bike is leaving with people they haven't met, so the guard doesn't hold it at the barrier while he rings your flat.

Scooty and scooter shifting from the older houses

The indoor bike in a Thubarahalli house is very often a scooter. It's lighter, it fits through the door more easily, and it's what the family uses for the market and the school run. It gets handled no differently from a motorcycle, wrapped in layers and padded at the mirrors and handlebar, standing on its own on the vehicle, and it tends to cost slightly less because there's less of it.

Before collection, empty the space under the seat. A scooter that lives in the house collects things, a bag of vegetables forgotten from last week, the gas bill, a spare key. Those stay with you.

And if the scooter belongs to an older member of the family who won't be at home on the day, leave the key and a copy of the RC with whoever will be.

Bike and two wheeler transport, Thubarahalli to other cities

Thubarahalli is a good starting point for leaving Bangalore. The carrier gets to the eastern highways through Whitefield and Hoskote without crossing the city, and Chennai and Hyderabad run often enough that there's no long wait. The Kerala routes are regular too, a smaller town at the far end can take longer and we'll say so up front.

Crossing into another state, the bike's folder holds photocopies, the RC and the owner's ID, and the originals go in your own bag. Bought it second-hand and the RC hasn't been transferred yet? Put the sale receipt in the folder too.

You'll know the price before anything is booked. One firm figure in writing after a free survey, a video call where you show us the bike, the doorway and the lane is usually enough, and the delivery date is committed before loading.

If the house is moving too

Moving the rest of the house in the same week? Then the bike simply joins that load and that bill. How the furniture gets out of a tight interior lane, tempo shuttles and all, is on our Thubarahalli packers page.

FAQ

Bike and Scooty Shifting in Thubarahalli, answered

Mostly on the destination, then on the bike. Across to Kundalahalli is a small job, Chennai or Hyderabad is a bigger one. We look at the bike and the lane first, then give you a single price in writing with GST, rather than a number guessed down the phone.

Yes. The crew boards the step, protects the floor and brings the bike out slowly with two people. Tell us at booking so they come prepared.

In the older interior lanes, usually not. It waits on Varthur Road or the main road and the bike is brought out to it.

Yes, and a lot of the indoor bikes here are scooters. Same wrapping and strapping as a motorcycle, normally a slightly lower price.

Yes, Chennai is one of our regular routes. The carrier leaves through Whitefield and Hoskote, so it doesn't cross the city.

It is, the Kerala routes run often. A smaller destination town may mean a longer wait for a carrier, which we'll tell you when we quote.

Not a problem, just slower. It may need turning on its stand in a tight space, so we send an extra person.

Yes, before it's wrapped and again at delivery, existing scratches included. You get the pictures.

Over to Kundalahalli or Brookefield, if it's your daily ride and it runs well, just ride it. We'd suggest a carrier for a long trip across Bangalore or a bike that hasn't been on the road in a while.

A little easier. The bike comes up from the basement to a carrier at the gate. Just tell security a bike is leaving so the guard isn't surprised.

No, run it low. The fuel is taken out before the bike is loaded.
