The gate is where moves go wrong

Ask anyone who's shifted flats in Bangalore, they'll tell you the packing was the straightforward half. What catches people out is the building. Every society runs its move-ins a little differently, there's no central rulebook, and the rules only become visible at the moment you're standing at the gate with a loaded truck behind you.

Some want a gate pass arranged a day ahead with the truck registration on it. Many hold a refundable deposit against damage to the lift car or the lobby floor. A few permit moves only on weekdays, or lock the service lift during office hours when residents are heading out, or stop everything at six in the evening regardless of how much is left on the truck.

Get one of those wrong and the crew waits while security phones the association secretary. That waiting time is yours, and it comes out of the same day you were hoping to finish in.

What we do before your date

Give us the block name at booking and we deal with the association ourselves. We find out who issues the gate pass and how much notice they want, book the service-lift slot, ask what the deposit is and what it covers, and confirm the hours moves are permitted inside so we can build the day around them rather than against them.

None of that is complicated. It just has to happen before the morning, and it's the single most common thing a cheap booking skips because it takes somebody's time and doesn't show up on an invoice.

Where a project has only recently handed over there may be no association yet, in which case it's a site office and a builder's move-in slot instead. Same job, different person to ask.

One detail that saves arguments later: ask the association whether the deposit is returned on the day or held for a period afterwards, and who inspects. Some blocks release it once security signs off, others hold it until a committee member has looked at the lift, which can mean chasing somebody for a fortnight over money that was always yours. Knowing which kind of block you are in before you hand it over is worth the two-minute conversation.

The lift is the bottleneck, not the truck

In almost every apartment building there is one service lift, it is shared with every delivery and every contractor in the block, and the slot goes to whoever asked first. That single fact shapes your moving day more than the vehicle, the crew size or the distance does.

A crew that has the lift for three uninterrupted hours will finish comfortably. The same crew sharing it with a furniture delivery on the eleventh floor will still be carrying at dusk. So we book it days ahead where the association allows, and where they only give short windows we plan the load order around them, heavy and awkward pieces first while the lift is ours.

We pad the lift car and cover the lobby floor as routine. Partly that's your goods and mostly it's your deposit, which is a real amount of money that quietly doesn't come back if a door panel gets scraped.

What an apartment move costs

Local jobs sit in the usual city bands: about ₹2,500 to ₹6,000 for a single room, ₹4,000 to ₹9,000 for a 1 BHK, ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for a 2 BHK and ₹9,000 to ₹25,000 for a 3 BHK. Flats with a working lift generally sit lower in their band than a comparable walk-up, because the hours are in the carrying.

The variable that catches people is a restricted lift window, which can add hours in a way distance never does. That's exactly the sort of thing the free survey establishes, along with volume, floor and how much packing you're handing over. The figure you approve is the amount on the GST invoice at the end.
