The eastern corridor, and what it does to a move

Packers and movers in Bhattarahalli work a stretch of the Old Madras Road corridor east of KR Puram, with Medahalli immediately alongside and TC Palya and Basavanapura close by. This is the part of Bangalore that grew outward as the eastern tech belt filled up and people started looking further along the highway for something they could afford, and the building has happened in waves rather than to any plan.

We choose early. Packing starts first thing, the truck is loaded and moving before the queues set, and the run happens while the road still works. For a local shift over to Medahalli, KR Puram, TC Palya or Basavanapura that's normally enough for a comfortable single day. For anything heading into the city or down towards the Outer Ring Road, an early departure is the difference between finishing today and finishing tomorrow.

Mid-week dates are noticeably easier than month-end weekends, when every lease in the city ends at once and every mover is out.

Lanes, lifts and the carry

In the newer blocks the constraint is administrative rather than physical. A gate pass carrying the truck registration, a service-lift slot that has to be booked in advance, often a refundable deposit held against damage to the lift car or lobby floor, and a set of hours the association permits moves inside. We arrange all of that ahead of your date if you give us the block name when you book.

In the older housing the constraint is entirely physical. Narrow approach lanes, compound gates sized for a car, no lift, and steep internal staircases that turn at the landing. Wardrobes and beds come apart before they come down. It's slow, honest work and it's crew hours, which is where most of a local move's cost actually sits.

The other thing that separates the two kinds of address here is what happens at the far end of the day. In a block, the goods come off the truck into a lift and the crew is done. In the older houses, unloading is the same slow carry as loading was, only now everybody has already worked a full morning. We size the crew for both ends rather than the harder one, which is why a job with a walk-up at each end costs more than one with a walk-up at only the start.
