A new bike moves just like any other on the truck. What needs a bit of care is the paperwork that keeps the warranty and the free services alive: the invoice, the service book, and a dealer in the new city who'll honour them.

Warranty and free services

Most manufacturers offer a warranty and a number of free services for a new bike, honoured at their authorised service centres across India. Check your service book or the manufacturer's app to see what's left.

Before you move, find an authorised service centre for your brand in the new city. Note its address and phone number, and check it's genuinely authorised, not just a workshop that services your brand.

If a free service falls due around the move date, get it done at the KR Puram dealer before the bike leaves. That's one less thing to arrange in a new city.

Keep the invoice. Warranty claims nearly always need it, along with the service book showing that the services were done on time.

Some warranties are tied to the bike being serviced at regular intervals or distances. If you miss a service because the bike was on a truck, the authorised centre in the new city may still honour it if you go soon after arrival. Ask both dealers.

Extended warranties bought from the dealer can have different terms. Read yours, and check whether it covers servicing outside Karnataka.

If the bike has a recall or a pending service campaign from the manufacturer, have it done before the move. Authorised centres in KR Puram see your model often and can do it quickly.

Write down the frame and engine numbers from the RC in your own notes. Service centres sometimes ask for them when your records can't be found by phone number.

Telling the dealer

Some dealers can transfer your service records to a dealer in the new city, or at least update the manufacturer's system with your new address. Ask yours before you leave.

If the bike was bought with a dealer-arranged loan or insurance, tell the dealer about the move too. The lender and the insurer need your new address.

If any accessories were promised but not yet fitted, or any part was on order, settle that with the dealer before the bike goes.

Ask the dealer for the owner's manual and both keys if they still have either. New bikes sometimes leave the showroom without one.

If you're within the first few weeks of ownership and the permanent RC hasn't arrived yet, talk to the dealer before moving the bike. They'll tell you when it's expected and whether the bike should wait for it.

Keep the dealer's contact details. If something needs their attention after the move, a phone call is easier when you have the right person's number.

Collecting in Ayyappa Nagar

Close to KR Puram station, Ayyappa Nagar's quiet lanes feed into some of the city's busiest roads. The truck waits where it's allowed to, and the new bike covers the last few hundred metres under its own power.

Early mornings are best. KR Puram's junctions and the roads around the station are among the busiest in east Bangalore.

Ahead of wrapping, each face of the bike is photographed. With only a few months on it, those pictures prove it left Ayyappa Nagar looking showroom-fresh.

Ask the crew to leave any protective film on the panels. It's an extra layer on the journey.

A new bike should arrive with almost the same odometer reading it left with. Note it at pickup and check it at delivery.

If you want the dealer's sticker or number plate frame removed before the move, do it in advance. The crew wraps the bike as it is.

Scooty shifting a new scooter

New scooters from the showrooms near KR Puram travel just like motorcycles on the truck, at a lower cost.

The same warranty rules apply. Keep the invoice and the service book together, and find an authorised service centre in the new city.

Clear the seat box, and take off any loose free accessories that came with the scooter.

If the scooter came with a free helmet or accessories from the showroom offer, pack them in your own luggage. They're easily lost in a move, and they're part of what you paid for.

Show whoever will ride it in the new city where the service book and invoice are kept. If you're not around for the first service, they'll need both.

If the scooter is still within the period for its first free service, book that service at the new city's authorised centre as soon as it arrives, before you forget.

Note the date and odometer reading of the last service in your phone. The new service centre will ask.

Bike transport from Ayyappa Nagar to other cities

KR Puram is a natural starting point for Chennai and Andhra, with Old Madras Road right there; north and west, the trucks use the ring roads. A big-city destination is quick to book, a smaller one takes longer, and either way you'll know the arrival date before choosing a service centre to visit.

If you're moving within Bangalore, from KR Puram to another neighbourhood, it's a same-day job, and your dealer's service network covers the whole city anyway.

A new bike's tank should be run down before collection, since petrol isn't carried. The survey is free and the quote, written with GST, can go in the folder with the invoice. For the household, see our KR Puram packers page.

If the bike is going to a family member rather than with you, transfer the warranty paperwork too. Some brands let you add a new phone number or email to the service records, which helps the next owner book services.

Pack the owner's manual in your own bag. New models have quirks, and the manual explains them better than a search on the phone in a new city.

Ask the KR Puram dealer whether they can recommend an authorised centre in your new city. Dealers often know which ones are well run.
