Bike Shifting in Kasavanahalli

Most bikes in Kasavanahalli's towers have been added to. A phone mount for the navigation, a charging point wired off the battery, a crash guard after the first slide on a wet Sarjapur Road, a tank bag, a rack at the back and maybe a pair of brighter lights for the dark stretch home past the lake. Each one made sense when it went on.

When the bike moves, every one of them is something that can snag, scratch the tank or quietly go missing. Sorting out what comes off and what stays is about ten minutes of work the evening before, and it's the part of the job owners most often forget.

What comes off, and what can stay

The simple rule is that anything you can take off with your hands or a basic screwdriver should come off. Phone mounts and holders, tank bags, magnetic pouches, a removable top box or tail bag, seat cushions and any action camera bracket all go into a bag that travels with you or in your own luggage. They're small, they're easy to lose and on a carrier they rub against the bike they're attached to.

Things that are bolted to the frame stay. Crash guards, frame sliders, a fixed rear rack and handguards protect the bike, and taking them off just to put them back is a waste of an evening. The crew pads around them.

Aftermarket mirrors are a judgement call. A pair of folding mirrors can stay, folded in and wrapped. Long or fragile ones that stick out past the handlebar are safer off and wrapped separately, especially if they cost more than the stock ones did.

Extra lights and horns wired into the bike stay on, but make sure they're switched off. A forgotten auxiliary light left on can drain the battery flat by the time the bike arrives, which isn't much of a welcome.

Chargers, wires and the things you can't see

A USB charger tied into the wiring is fine to leave in place. Unplug any cable hanging off it and tuck the loose end away so it can't catch on the straps.

Check the handlebar clamps too. Phone mounts that grip the bar often leave a rubber pad or a bare metal clamp behind when you remove the cradle, and those can mark a painted tank if the bars are turned during loading. Take the whole clamp off if it comes off easily.

And look under the seat. Riders in this corridor keep their whole commuting life in there, a rain suit, a spare charger, a puncture kit, parking cards for two offices. Take it all out, the storage gets emptied before pickup anyway and you'll want most of it in the first week at the new place.

Keys are worth a second look, especially on a bike that has been in the family a while. A key ring with a remote for your building's gate, a bunch of house keys and a bottle opener is how a spare key ends up lost. Give the crew only the bike's key and keep the spare with you.

Pickup from a Kasavanahalli tower

Bikes here live in basements and in the parking strips of the gated villa projects round the lake. Carriers stay out of basements, which means the bike makes its way up the ramp to meet one at the entrance, and in the larger complexes we'll ask the society for a standing spot in advance because visitor parking goes quickly.

The condition photos are taken once the accessories are off and before any wrapping, so they show the bike as it travels. If a crash guard has scraped the paint at some point, that'll show in the pictures, which protects both of us.

Sarjapur Road clogs at the office peaks. An early pickup or a quiet weekend morning gets the carrier out of the corridor before it locks.

Scooty shifting with all the extras

Scooters collect even more add-ons than motorcycles. A hook on the front for shopping bags, a phone clip on the mirror stem, a seat cover, a floor mat, a windshield, sometimes a child's seat on the footboard. The same rule applies, anything that comes off by hand goes in the bag.

A scooter windshield is the thing people most often leave on. It's also the part most likely to crack if a strap is pulled tight across it. If it's held by a couple of screws, take it off and wrap it in a towel. If it's fixed firmly, the crew pads it.

Otherwise a scooty is the quicker job, padded at the bars and mirrors and held upright in the carrier, and it's generally a touch cheaper than sending a motorcycle.

Bike and two wheeler transport out of Kasavanahalli

Within Bangalore the bike is delivered the same day, whether it's a short run to Haralur or HSR or across to the other side of the city. For longer trips Chennai and Hyderabad see frequent departures, Kerala's main cities are regular and some smaller towns take more time to find a vehicle headed there.

Bring the fuel down before pickup since it's drained before loading. The crew will want photocopies of the RC and your ID. We'll want to see the bike first, free, on video or in person, and then the price goes down in writing with GST on the invoice. If the flat is moving as well, the Kasavanahalli packers page covers that.

At the other end, put the accessories back on once you've checked the bike over against the pickup photos. Doing it the other way round makes any new mark harder to spot.

FAQ

Bike and Scooty Shifting in Kasavanahalli, answered

It depends mainly on where the bike is going. Accessories don't change the price unless a fragile part needs separate wrapping. The survey is free, and the quote that follows is a single fixed figure, GST included.

Yes. Mounts snag on wrapping and the clamps can mark the tank. Take the whole thing off if you can.

No. They're bolted to the frame and they protect the bike, the crew pads around them.

If it's removable, take it off and empty it. If the base plate is bolted on, that stays.

Yes. If the windshield comes off with a couple of screws, remove it, otherwise it's padded in place.

Not if everything's switched off and loose cables are tucked away.

Small ones are safer with you. Bigger items can go packed and labelled, but loose parts never travel attached to the bike.

Yes, Chennai has frequent departures. An early pickup gets the carrier clear of Sarjapur Road before the rush.

Off, before wrapping, so the photos show the bike exactly as it travels.

After you've checked the bike against the pickup photos at delivery, so any new mark is easy to see.

The seat cover can stay if it's fitted snugly. A backrest that unbolts easily is better off and packed with your things.
