Bike Transport Services near Lalbagh

The neighbourhoods around Lalbagh's gates, Basavanagudi to the south-west, Wilson Garden to the east, Jayanagar beyond the south gate and Sudhama Nagar to the north, are old, settled and full of families who have lived there for decades. Among the vehicles parked in their compounds are a good number of adapted scooters: two-wheelers fitted with side wheels for riders with a disability.

An adapted scooter is a lifeline for its rider, and moving one to another city needs a little more care than an ordinary bike. It's wider, it doesn't lean on a side stand, and its modifications are part of what makes it work. This page is about moving one properly.

What's different about an adapted scooter

The side wheels change the scooter's footprint. It's much wider than a standard two-wheeler, it stands upright on its own wheels, and it can't be tilted in the usual way when it's loaded and strapped. Tell us at booking that the scooter is adapted, so the crew plans the space and the straps.

Measure it. The full width across the side wheels, the length, and the height to the top of the handlebar. With those three numbers, we know how it fits on the carrier and whether the ramp suits it.

Look at how the side wheels attach. Some kits can be removed for transport and refitted by a mechanic. Others are welded or bolted in a way that should stay as it is. Ask the fitter if you're unsure, and tell us which kind it is.

Note any other adaptations too: hand controls, a modified brake lever, a backrest, a ramp or a carrier for crutches. Each one is padded and photographed, so it arrives as it left.

If the scooter has been adapted with a reverse gear or an electric start added for the rider, mention that too. The crew may need to move it a few metres under its own power, and knowing the controls in advance helps.

Loading it safely

An adapted scooter is usually walked or ridden up a ramp onto the carrier, rather than lifted. The crew then straps it to the deck on its main frame, keeping the straps clear of the side-wheel arms and any hand controls.

Pick a level spot for loading. Around Lalbagh, many lanes slope gently, and a wide vehicle on a slope is harder to guide. We'll agree a spot with you when we call.

The rider may not be the person handing the scooter over, especially if the move is part of a family's relocation. Whoever does should know how the controls work, so they can move it a few metres if the crew asks.

The condition photos are taken from every side, including close-ups of the side-wheel mounts and adapted controls. Keep copies; at delivery, check those parts first.

If the rider uses a wheelchair or crutches that clip onto the scooter, take those off and travel with them. Mobility aids are personal equipment, and they should never be out of the rider's reach during a move.

Ask for the crew's arrival time and make sure the scooter is already at the gate. For riders who find long waits tiring, a precise slot matters, and we'll call ahead to confirm.

Papers for an adapted vehicle

Modifications to a vehicle can be recorded on its registration. If the adaptation is noted on the RC, the photocopy that travels with the scooter shows it, which helps if the load is checked on the way.

If it isn't noted, the scooter can still travel; we move it as it is. But it's worth asking the transport department about recording the adaptation, especially if the scooter will be re-registered in another state later.

Check that the insurance policy covers the adapted scooter as it stands, including the kit. Some policies treat the side wheels as an accessory. Ask the insurer and keep their reply with the papers.

As always, photocopies of the RC and the owner's ID go with the scooter, plus a signed note from the owner if someone else is handing it over. Originals stay with the family.

Some states offer concessions on registration or road tax for vehicles adapted for riders with a disability. If the scooter is moving to another state for good, ask that state's transport department what applies; the paperwork you keep now may be useful there.

Scooter shifting near Lalbagh

Not every scooter near Lalbagh is adapted, of course. A standard scooter from Basavanagudi or Wilson Garden is wrapped and strapped like any motorbike, and it's usually priced below one.

For older residents moving to live with children elsewhere, the family scooter often goes along. Clear the seat box, take off any loose bag hooks, and send it with the household if a household move is happening.

Early mornings are the best time around Lalbagh. Walkers come out at dawn, but the roads around the gates are still relatively quiet compared with mid-morning.

If an older parent's scooter is going to them in their new home, ask whether they still want to ride in a new, unfamiliar city. Sometimes the kindest thing is a scooter that stays parked until they're comfortable, with a grandchild riding it in the meantime.

Bike transport near Lalbagh to other cities

From the centre-south of the city, the highways out are reached via the ring roads or Hosur Road and Mysore Road. Big cities are routine; a smaller town can take longer to arrange, and we'll give you the expected arrival date when you book.

For an adapted scooter, tell the receiver at the other end how it unloads and what to check: side-wheel mounts, controls, tyres on all wheels. If the rider is travelling separately, plan for the scooter to arrive after they do, so they can check it themselves.

Let the fuel run down before the day. The survey costs nothing, and an adapted scooter's quote, like any other, is written with GST before you agree. For the household, see our Basavanagudi packers page.

If there's a mechanic who knows the adaptation kit in Bangalore, ask whether they know anyone at the destination. Side-wheel kits are simple, but a mechanic who has seen one before is worth finding.
