Bike Shifting in Chamrajpet

Chamrajpet is one of the oldest settled parts of the city, many homes have stayed in one family for decades, and weddings here are family affairs on a large scale. Sometimes the gift is a two-wheeler. A new scooter for the bride, a motorcycle for the groom, bought in Bangalore and meant for the couple's new home in Chennai, Hyderabad or wherever the job has taken them.

The bike doesn't usually travel with the couple. They leave after the wedding with suitcases, and the bike follows. That's the part worth planning, because a gift that arrives with the wrong papers, or a week before anyone's there to receive it, isn't quite the gift anyone intended.

Whose name is the bike in?

This is the first question, and it's best settled before the bike is bought. If it's registered in the name of the person who'll ride it, the couple can send or receive it with their own papers. If it's registered to the parent who paid, it can still travel, with a short signed note from that parent saying it's being sent to the couple, plus a copy of their ID.

If the bike will be ridden in another state for good, it will need re-registering there eventually, and that's easier when the registered owner is the one living there. It's a step for the couple to take with the transport department in the new state, separate from the move itself.

Insurance should name the rider too, or at least cover them. Check that before the bike leaves Chamrajpet, while the family and the dealer are both close by.

Timing it after the celebrations

Weddings in this part of the city spill over several days, with relatives coming and going, cooks in the kitchen and the house full from morning to night. Nobody wants a bike pickup in the middle of that. Book it for a few days after, once the guests have gone and someone has time to hand it over properly.

Think about the other end too, because it's easy to forget in the excitement. The couple may be travelling, visiting the other side of the family, or simply not in the new flat yet. Set the delivery date for when one of them, or someone they trust, will actually be there.

If the new flat isn't ready, the bike can wait in our warehouse and storage until it is, and be delivered when the couple has settled in. That's often kinder than sending it to a building where nobody has the keys yet and the watchman has no idea who the bike belongs to.

And keep the dealer's papers together, the invoice, the warranty card and the first service booklet. Send copies with the bike's paperwork and the originals with the couple. The first free service will be done in the new city.

Getting the bike out of a Chamrajpet cross

The numbered mains and crosses make a Chamrajpet address easy to find. Parking is the hard part. Cars and two-wheelers fill the kerbs from early morning, and some of the inner crosses are too narrow for a carrier to turn. We agree beforehand where the vehicle will wait, usually out on a main road, and the bike makes its way there with you or a crew member.

Being next door to City Market and Kalasipalya, the roads around get choked through the day with trade traffic. An early pickup, before the market traffic spills into the residential streets, is far easier.

A brand-new bike gets photographed just like any other. That might seem unnecessary, but it gives the couple a clear record of its condition when it left, which is exactly what they'll want at delivery.

If the bike has been parked at a relative's house for the wedding week, because the family home was full of guests, tell us that address instead. It's common, and it saves the bike being moved twice.

Scooty shifting as a wedding gift

A new scooter is the most common gift of this kind, often for the bride's daily trips in the new city. On the carrier it gets the full care any bike does, pictures of its condition first, the bars and mirrors cushioned, wrapped in layers and strapped standing. A scooter is the lighter of the two, so the price is normally a little lower.

If the dealer fitted a gift ribbon, a garland or a decorative cover, take it off before the crew arrives. Keep the decoration for the photos at the other end if you like, but it won't survive the wrapping.

And check the scooter's first service date. A new bike that misses its first service because it was on a carrier is an easy thing to avoid.

Bike and two wheeler transport from Chamrajpet

Chennai and Hyderabad have carriers going all the time, the Kerala cities are a regular run, and further cities like Pune can be arranged. For a couple settled in a smaller town, there can be a gap before any carrier is headed in that direction, which we'll mention at booking. The day it arrives is settled before it's loaded.

Within Bangalore, to Basavanagudi, Hanumanthanagar or Jayanagar, it's a quick same-day job.

A new bike may have only a little fuel in it, and whatever there is will be drained before loading. The crew carries photocopied papers. A video call is usually enough for the survey, which is free, and the written price that follows, with GST, doesn't change. If a household is moving too, the Chamrajpet packers page covers that.
