For the move that is boxes and no furniture

There is a whole category of moving that does not need a truck. A student finishing at a college here and going home with six cartons and a cycle. Somebody leaving a PG in Kadugodi where the bed and the almirah were never theirs to begin with. A family that has already shipped the furniture and has eleven boxes of books left over. None of that fills a vehicle, and paying for one makes no sense.

Luggage transport is the answer to those. Your boxes ride as part of a shared load on a truck that is going that way anyway, which is why it costs a fraction of a dedicated vehicle.

How the shared load works

Your consignment is weighed and measured at pickup, inventoried piece by piece, and marked with your reference. It then travels alongside other consignments on the same route, and it is unloaded and delivered to your door at the far end. Because the vehicle is shared, the timeline is a window rather than a promise of tomorrow, and the window depends on how often we run that particular route.

That is the honest trade-off. Dedicated is faster and costs several times more, shared is slower and cheap, and for boxes of clothes and books the slower option is almost always the right call. Where the dates genuinely matter, say a hostel that is closing on a fixed day, tell us at booking and we will either put you on the next scheduled load or price a dedicated option so you can compare the two properly.

Every piece is counted off the vehicle against the same inventory it was counted onto, and you sign for it. It is a simple check but it is the one that stops a carton quietly ending up in somebody else's delivery.

Packing for a shared vehicle

Goods on a shared load get handled more times than goods on a dedicated truck, so they need to be packed for that. Cartons want to be sealed properly and not overfilled to the point where the lid bulges, because a bulging box is the one that gets crushed when something is stacked on it. Trunks and suitcases travel well. Loose bags and open baskets do not, and a bedsheet tied around a bundle is not packing however traditional it looks.

We will pack it for you if you would rather not, materials included, and for anything fragile that is worth doing. Books are heavier than people expect, so they go in small cartons rather than large ones, a large box of books usually fails at the bottom. Bikes and cycles are wrapped and crated separately where they are going along too.

What it costs, and what you actually get in writing

Pricing follows weight and volume together, whichever is the larger, plus the route. So thirty kilos of books and thirty kilos of duvets are not the same consignment even though the scale agrees. You get one firm figure before it leaves, a GST invoice, and an inventory copy.

Optional transit insurance on declared value is available and on a long shared run it is worth thinking about, particularly if there is a laptop or an instrument in there. And we would still say the same thing we tell everyone about a house move: passports, jewellery, certificates and medication should travel in the bag you carry yourself, not in a carton on a lorry.
