Planning around your shifts

Shift work makes pickup timing tricky. If you're on nights, the morning is when you sleep. If you're on the morning shift, you leave before the carrier would arrive. Tell us your shift at booking and we'll find a slot that fits, often a weekend or your weekly off.

When every slot clashes with work, a roommate or a colleague on the opposite shift can release the bike. Leave them the key and the papers, and text us their name.

Leave the bike somewhere easy to reach on the day. In rooms and shared houses around Hebbagodi, bikes are often parked in a tight row. Move yours to the front the night before.

Your last weeks at the factory may be busy with paperwork, final settlement and handovers. Book the bike early, so it isn't the thing left to the last day.

If you're leaving the company, check with HR whether a final relieving letter or settlement needs your presence on a particular day. If the bike's registration is from another state, because you bought it there or it came with you to Bangalore, the move home doesn't change that, but re-registration may come up where it's going to stay. That's with the transport department, separately from the move.

Keep the bike's service book or the last few receipts in the family folder. A mechanic in a district town will want to know when the oil was last changed, and a scrap of paper from a Bangalore service centre answers it.

If the bike was bought on a loan from a lender near your workplace, check that the loan is closed and that the lender's name has been removed from the registration, or ask how to do that before you leave. Sorting it from a small town later means long phone calls.

The delivery end in a small town

District headquarters in north Karnataka see trucks often. A taluk town or a village beyond them is possible, though it can mean waiting for a load heading up that particular road. We'll name the arrival date for your town when we quote.

For a village, the handover often happens at a junction on the main road or the bus stand, and a family member takes the bike home from there. Ask the receiver for a landmark, a location pin and a second phone number.

WhatsApp the family the condition photos once the crew has taken them. Ask whoever signs at home to compare the bike carefully, and to keep a bottle of petrol handy, because the tank will be close to dry.

Tell them roughly when to expect the call. A family waiting by the road all day for a bike is a family that will remember the wait more than the delivery.

If the bike reaches home before you do, ask the family to keep it under cover and start it once every few days. Bikes that stand untouched in an open courtyard through a monsoon are not happy bikes when their owner returns.

Tell them, too, not to sign anything that says the bike arrived in good condition until they've actually walked round it. A signature on a delivery slip is a statement that everything was fine.

Scooty shifting from Hebbagodi

Many Hebbagodi workers send the scooter home for an amma or a younger sister, for the market, the temple and the school gate. It's padded and strapped like the motorcycles beside it and is the cheaper of the two.

Clear the seat box, take off any phone holder, and make sure the spare key is with you or the receiver. A scooter arriving in a small town with one key and no way to get another nearby is an annoyance for months.
