Bike Shifting in Electronic City Phase 2

Electronic City Phase 2 has a lot of people from Kerala in it. They came for the campuses along Neeladri Road, took a flat in one of the newer projects, bought a bike for the commute, and a few years later the plan changes. A job back home, a family wedding that turns into a move, parents who want them nearer.

The bike is usually one of the last things sorted. It shouldn't be, because Kerala is a route we run often but not every corner of it is equally easy to reach, and knowing which kind of place home is changes how you plan.

Big cities and smaller towns

Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Thrissur see carriers from Bangalore regularly, and a bike going to any of them is a straightforward booking. The delivery date is agreed before loading and the bike arrives on it.

Further from those cities it's less predictable. A town up in the hills, or a village a long way off the highway, may not have a carrier heading there until there's enough load to justify it. We'll say so honestly when we quote, and sometimes the practical answer is delivery to the nearest city with a family member collecting from there.

Tell us the exact place at booking, the town and the nearest big junction or landmark. That one detail decides most of the plan.

Timing around the year matters too. The weeks around Onam and Vishu see a lot of people from Kerala heading home at once, and bikes going the same way book up faster. If your move falls near a festival, book earlier than you think you need to, and expect the roads into Kerala to be busy.

Ghat roads and narrow streets in older town centres can stop a carrier short of the house. If home is down a lane like that, unloading happens wherever the road is wide enough, so someone from the family should be there to walk the bike home.

Getting the bike out of Phase 2

Phase 2 is the growing edge of the tech city, and some of the projects here are newer than the roads leading to them. If the approach to your block is half laid or dug up for cables, a carrier stops where the road is firm and the bike is ridden out to it. Send us a short video of your lane when you book and we'll know which.

Inside the newer gated projects the internal roads are usually good, but security will want to know a resident's bike is leaving on someone else's vehicle. Tell the gate the day before, and if your society uses a material-movement form, fill it in for the bike too.

The carrier leaves for Kerala by Hosur Road and the highways south, which means it doesn't have to cross the city. That's one real advantage of being out here, and it lets a Phase 2 pickup happen at a sensible hour instead of the crack of dawn.

Papers for an interstate trip

The trip to Kerala passes through another state or two, and a carrier full of bikes can be checked on the way. What travels with your bike is a photocopy of the registration certificate, a photocopy of your ID, and if the bike isn't registered to you, a few lines signed by the owner agreeing to the move.

Keep the originals with you. If you're settling in Kerala for good, re-registering the bike there will come up eventually, and that's something you sort out with the transport department yourself. Ask about it once you're home and settled, at the office that covers your new address.

Make sure the insurance has a few months left, or renew it before it leaves, and give the insurer your Kerala address while you're at it so next year's reminder finds you. Renewing from Bangalore, with the old address still valid, is simpler than doing it in a rush at the other end.

Scooty shifting to Kerala

A lot of the bikes going home from Phase 2 are scooters, the ones that did the short run to the campus every day. On the carrier a scooty is treated as a motorcycle would be, pictures first, then protection on its corners and mirrors, wrap and straps. It's lighter, so the price usually comes out a little lower.

Monsoon is worth thinking about if the bike is arriving in June or July, when much of Kerala gets its heaviest rain. Wrapping keeps the worst of the weather off, but a dry spot to unload into at the other end, a porch or a covered parking, is worth arranging.

Clear out everything under the seat, including the rain cover you'll certainly want in Kerala. Pack it in your own luggage instead, near the top, because it's the first thing you'll reach for when the bike is back on the road there.

Bike and two wheeler transport within Bangalore too

Not every bike from Phase 2 goes to Kerala, of course. Moves within Electronic City, or down towards Chandapura and Bommasandra, are short and done in a day. A run into the main city takes longer and starts early to beat the Hosur Road backup at the morning peak.

The fuel tank gets drained before loading on any trip, so don't fill up in the last week. Price comes after a free survey on video or in person, one written figure with GST on the bill. If the whole flat is going home too, the Electronic City Phase 2 packers page has the household move.
