Bike Shifting in Gottigere

Gottigere is where Bannerghatta Road starts to run out of city, and a lot of the apartment blocks out here are new. Families move in a few at a time. For the first months a building may have a dozen flats occupied out of a hundred, a basement that isn't open yet, and a security guard who's still learning everyone's face.

Bringing a bike into a block like that is a little different from delivering to a settled complex. The carrier arrives, and someone has to decide where the bike actually goes. A couple of questions to the project office in the week before answer all of it.

Ask the project office first

In a building that's still filling up, the project or facility office usually knows more than security does. Ask them three things. Is the basement parking open, or are residents parking somewhere else for now? Is my parking slot allotted yet? And who at the gate should know that a bike is arriving?

If the basement isn't open, there's normally a temporary arrangement, a strip near the entrance or a corner of the surface parking. Find out where, so the crew can wheel the bike straight there rather than standing in the driveway waiting for someone to decide.

Some buildings in their first months only let vehicles in at set hours while construction finishes elsewhere on the site. If yours does, we'll fit the delivery inside those hours. Construction traffic is the other thing to ask about, because a block with cement mixers still coming and going in the mornings is better approached later in the day.

While you're on the phone, ask whether the building expects anything in writing for a vehicle arriving, a resident's form or a copy of your allotment letter. New blocks often have a move-in register written for furniture that gets applied to bikes too, and it's quicker to fill it in advance than at the barrier.

On the day at a new Gottigere block

Even once a basement opens, the carrier stays up top. Unloading happens at the entrance or wherever the guard points it to. In a half-occupied building the gate area is often wide and empty, which makes the unloading easy.

What's less easy is getting in. A guard who doesn't recognise you, or hasn't been told, may reasonably stop a truck at the barrier. Give security your flat number, the bike's registration and the delivery day in advance, and be on the phone or at the gate when the carrier arrives.

Unwrap and check the bike there, against the pickup photos, before it goes to its parking spot. Lighting in a new building's parking areas is sometimes not fully fitted yet, and the gate in daylight is the best place to look at paint.

The tank arrives nearly dry because it's drained before loading. If your parking is a fair walk from the gate, bring a little petrol so you can ride it there, or be ready to push.

Roads that are still being finished

Plenty of Gottigere's new streets are wide and finished, and a carrier can stand at the gate without any trouble. Some approach roads aren't done yet, laid in parts, dug up for a drain in others. Where the last stretch won't take a carrier, it parks on the nearest solid road and the bike covers the rest under its own power or on foot.

Send us a short video of the approach when you book, taken on the actual road you'll be using. It takes you a minute and tells us more than a map pin does.

Being at the far end of Bannerghatta Road, Gottigere is a long run from most of the city. An early start keeps the carrier ahead of the BG Road crawl on its way out, and a late-morning delivery coming in usually misses the worst of it.

Scooty shifting into a new flat

Families moving into the new blocks here often bring a scooter for the short trips to Hulimavu, Arekere or the shops along the main road. It travels exactly as a motorbike does, photographed, then cushioned at the handlebar and mirrors, wrapped and strapped upright. Being light, it usually comes in a little cheaper.

A scooter is also the easiest thing to push to a temporary parking spot if there's no fuel. Still, bring a bottle, because the first trip to the nearest pump from Gottigere can be longer than you'd like on foot.

If the temporary parking is uncovered, a scooter cover is worth unpacking on the first evening. New sites are dusty, and a scooter left in the open next to a building that's still being finished collects a fine grey coat within days.

Bike and two wheeler transport to and from Gottigere

Most bikes coming into these new blocks are arriving from elsewhere in Bangalore, often a rented flat further in, and those are same-day jobs. Others come from Chennai, Hyderabad or Kerala, which all have regular carriers. Smaller hometowns can take longer to find a vehicle heading this way, and we'll say so when we quote. Either way, the delivery day is agreed before loading.

Whoever hands the bike over at the other end gives the crew its key and photocopies of the registration and the owner's ID. The originals don't travel.

The price comes after a free survey, a video is usually enough, as a single written figure with GST. If the household is arriving too, the Gottigere packers page covers that move, including the power and water checks a new flat needs.
