Bike Transport Services in Hebbal

People think of bike transport as something for leaving the city. But one of the most common moves from Hebbal is to the other side of Bangalore. A new job in Electronic City, a flat in HSR, a family moving closer to schools in the south. On a map it's one city. On a weekday morning it's the flyover, the centre and Silk Board, one after another.

Riding a bike that distance is perfectly possible, and plenty of people do. But on the day of a move, with a house to empty and keys to hand over, a carrier often makes more sense. The bike is collected from Hebbal in the morning and is at the new address the same day, without anyone riding through the middle of Bangalore with a backpack.

Ride it across, or put it on a carrier?

If you're comfortable riding in heavy traffic and the bike is your daily commuter, riding across can be fine on a quiet Sunday morning. We'd be the first to say so, and we'd rather you saved the money if riding suits you.

A carrier earns its place on moving day itself. The person who'd ride the bike is usually the person needed at both ends, supervising the packing in Hebbal and the unloading at the new flat. Riding across in the middle of that means one adult missing for hours.

It also helps when there are two bikes and one rider, when the bike is a heavy cruiser or a sports bike that isn't pleasant in stop-start traffic, or when it hasn't been ridden in a while and nobody wants to find out halfway across the city whether it still runs.

And for an elderly parent's scooter, a long ride through the city is something nobody in the family should have to do. A carrier collects it from the gate and delivers it to the new one.

Getting out of Hebbal

Hebbal revolves around its flyover, where the ring roads meet Ballari Road beside the lake. It connects to everything, and at the peaks it's one of the slowest places in the city, with the Manyata Tech Park crowd adding to the morning and evening rush.

So collections here are early, before the flyover fills. A carrier that's away from Hebbal at seven is through the centre before the worst of it. One that leaves at nine spends a long time in the queue.

The housing here leans towards high-rise towers with proper basements and organised societies. Carriers don't go into the basement, so the bike comes up to the gate or a visitor bay. Tell the society beforehand, as the premium towers tend to be strict about vehicles leaving on someone else's truck.

In the villament communities towards Kempapura, the carrier can often get closer to the door, and the bike is photographed and wrapped right there.

Sunday mornings are the gentlest time of all for a cross-city run from Hebbal. If your move can start on a Sunday, the carrier crosses the centre with very little in its way.

Arriving on the far side of the city

At the other end, the bike usually lands in a tower or a township in the south or south-east, Electronic City, HSR, Bellandur or one of the newer projects off Sarjapur Road. Find out where the carrier can stop and where two-wheelers park in your new building before the day, so the delivery isn't held at the barrier.

If the household is arriving the same day, plan the order. Most families want the furniture in first and the bike delivered in the afternoon, when someone is free to receive it and check it over.

Since the fuel was drained before loading, the bike turns up with almost none. A litre in a bottle saves a walk to the pump.

Compare the bike against the pickup photos before signing, even on a trip within the city. A cross-city run is still a run, the check takes two minutes, and it's the habit that protects you on the longer trips too.

Scooty shifting across Bangalore

Scooters are the bike most often moved across the city on a carrier rather than ridden, partly because they're less comfortable on the long stretches and partly because they belong to the person who's busiest on moving day.

On the carrier a scooter gets the same protection as a motorbike, and it's typically a touch cheaper. Have the seat box emptied and any clip-on accessories removed by the time the crew rings the bell.

If the scooter has a Hebbal society sticker or a gate tag, ask the society whether they want it back before you leave. The new society will issue its own.

Two scooters going to the same new address can travel together on one carrier, which is simpler than two separate rides through the city.

Bike transport from Hebbal to other cities

For bikes leaving Bangalore, Hebbal is well placed for the north. The carrier heads up towards the airport and the highway to Hyderabad without crossing the city. Chennai and the Kerala cities see plenty of traffic too. A smaller town means waiting for a load heading there, something we'll flag before you commit. Either way the arrival day is fixed in advance.

What travels with it is a photocopied registration and owner's ID card. Keep the originals in your own bag.

We survey free, by video or in person, and the figure we write down, GST included, doesn't change. If the flat is moving across the city too, the Hebbal packers page covers the household.

If you're leaving the state for good, re-registering the bike in the new state comes up later. That's your step with the transport department, separate from the move.
