Bike Transport Services in Hulimangala

Hulimangala, out past Electronic City Phase 1 on the way towards Jigani, is quieter and greener than the tech corridor it borders, and plenty of riders here own something bigger than a commuter. Cruisers, adventure tourers and heavy classic singles all make sense when weekends mean long rides south and west of the city.

A big bike moves the same way a small one does, but the details matter more. It's heavier to lift, wider on the carrier, and usually wearing accessories that don't belong on a truck. A little preparation keeps it exactly as you left it.

What's different about a heavy bike

Weight is the obvious thing. A heavy motorcycle can't be casually lifted by two people the way a scooter can, so it goes up a ramp onto the carrier, with the crew guiding it and controlling the descent at the other end. Tell us the make and model at booking so the right crew and ramp come.

Width is the next thing. Crash guards, wide handlebars and panniers take up space, and on a carrier bikes are strapped side by side. Anything that sticks out is more likely to be knocked.

And height. A tall adventure bike with a high screen needs a little thought about how it sits on the deck. None of this is a problem if we know about it in advance.

The price for a heavy bike is set the same way as any other: by the route and the bike, after a free survey. You'll know the figure in writing before you agree.

If the bike has a loud aftermarket exhaust, a lowered seat or other modifications, tell us at booking. They don't change how it's moved, but they're worth noting in the condition record, and the receiving end should know what to expect.

Larger tyres and long footpegs need a little more padding, and the crew will add it. The point of telling us everything in advance is that nothing on the day comes as a surprise.

Taking the accessories off

Remove anything that unbolts easily and would be expensive to lose. Panniers and top boxes come off and travel with your luggage or as separate packages. Tank bags, phone mounts and action-camera mounts come off too.

Fold the mirrors in or take them off if they're the long, aftermarket kind. Remove a tall touring screen if it's simple to unscrew, or tell us it's staying on so it can be padded properly.

Leave the crash guards on. They're part of the frame and they actually protect the bike during strapping. Same for a bash plate.

Take photographs of the accessories yourself before removing them, so it's easy to put everything back at the other end. A pile of bolts and brackets in a bag is much less mysterious with a few pictures to follow.

Heated grips, auxiliary lights and wiring for a GPS unit can stay if they're fixed firmly. Mention them so the crew pads around them and they're in the photos. Loose wiring should be tucked and taped, since anything flapping on a carrier will chafe.

If the bike wears a tail bag or a saddle bag on a quick-release mount, take the bag off and leave the mount. The mount is part of the bike; the bag is luggage.

Collecting in Hulimangala

The roads here are a mix of village streets, new layouts and the main road through towards Jigani. Some inner lanes are narrow, and the carrier usually waits somewhere wide and firm while the bike is ridden out. For a heavy bike, pick a flat spot for loading, since a ramp on a slope is awkward.

The crew photographs the bike all round before wrapping, which matters more on an expensive machine. Point out existing scratches, custom paint, and any aftermarket parts so they're recorded.

An early pickup keeps the carrier off Hosur Road at its worst. Ask for the first slot of the day if you can.

Run the tank low beforehand. On a big bike with a large tank, a full load of fuel adds noticeable weight and has to be drained anyway.

If the bike lives under a cover in a garage, take the cover off the night before so the crew can see the bodywork in daylight. A bike photographed under a garage bulb shows very little, and the photos are what the receiver compares against.

Lock the steering after the bike is wheeled to the loading point only if the crew asks you to. They usually want the bars free to guide the bike up the ramp.

Scooter shifting from Hulimangala

Not every bike in the household is big. If a scooter is travelling too, it can go on the same carrier, booked together with the motorcycle, and it usually costs a little less.

Scooters are easy loads. Empty the seat box, take off any phone holder, and leave the rest to the crew.

Put both vehicles' papers in separate envelopes, each labelled with the registration number.

When a scooter and a heavy motorcycle share a booking, the crew loads the heavier bike first and arranges the rest around it. Nothing about that needs your involvement beyond telling us both are going.

Bike transport from Hulimangala to other cities

Big bikes often move with riders heading to places with good riding: Pune for the ghats, Kerala, Goa's side of the coast, or the hills further north. Regular routes are quick to arrange, and smaller towns can take longer because a carrier has to be going there. The delivery date is set before loading.

Some riders send the bike ahead to a city where a long ride begins, then fly to meet it. That works well; just make sure someone can receive the bike if you land after it.

Copies of the RC and ID go in the envelope, originals with you. The survey is free and the written price, GST included, is final. For moving a whole household from here, see our Electronic City Phase 1 packers page.

At the far end, ask the receiver to have a clear, level space ready for unloading, and to keep children and pets back while a heavy bike comes down the ramp. It takes a couple of minutes, and the crew needs room to work.
