Bike Shifting in Wilson Garden
Wilson Garden is full of households that have been in the same house for decades, and full of bikes bought on a loan in the nineties or the early two-thousands. The loan was paid off long ago. Nobody thought about it again. Then the family decides to move, someone pulls the RC out of the almirah to photocopy it, and there's a bank's name printed on it, still listed as the financer.

Costs you nothing and there's no salesperson at the end of it.
That's very common, and for a short move inside Bangalore it barely matters. For a bike going to another state, or one you plan to sell or re-register later, it's worth clearing first. It's a paperwork job, not a moving job, but it's the kind of thing that's much easier sorted now than from another city.
What hypothecation on the RC means
When a bike is bought on a loan, the lender's interest is recorded on the registration. That's the hypothecation. Once the loan is repaid, the lender issues a letter saying so, and the owner is meant to take that to the RTO to have the bank's name removed. A lot of people received the letter, filed it somewhere and never went to the RTO.
So the RC still shows the bank. Legally the loan is closed, but on paper the bike still looks financed. Within Karnataka that rarely causes trouble day to day. It becomes a problem when you want to transfer ownership, re-register in another state, or explain the bike at a checkpoint on the way somewhere new.
It also matters if the bike is ever sold. A buyer, or a buyer's lender, will see the bank's name and ask for the closure paperwork before anything can be transferred. Doing it now means the bike is clean on paper whenever that day comes.
We don't handle hypothecation removal, and we'd be cautious of anyone who offers to fix it informally. It's done by the owner with the lender and the transport department.
Sorting it before the move
Start by finding the loan closure letter, sometimes called a no-objection letter from the bank. If it's lost, the lender can usually issue a fresh one, though older loans from banks that have since merged can take some chasing. Then the RTO process removes the bank's name from the registration.
How long that takes isn't something we can promise, so start as soon as you find the problem. If the move date can't wait, the bike can still travel inside Bangalore, and for an out-of-state move a copy of the closure letter in the bike's folder is a sensible thing to carry alongside the RC copy.
If the bank no longer exists under that name, start with whichever bank took it over. Older Wilson Garden families sometimes find the RC names a cooperative bank or a local finance company, and those can need a visit in person.
Getting the bike out of a Wilson Garden lane
The lanes here are old and tight, and a lot of them won't take a carrier at all. Homes sit shoulder to shoulder with shops, and the kerb is claimed from early morning. So we agree a stopping point where there's room, often a short walk away, and the crew brings the bike there.
Some older homes keep a motorcycle on the raised verandah, up two or three steps from the gate. Getting it down is a two-person job with a board over the steps, and the crew will want to know it's there before they arrive.
In older houses the bike often lives inside the compound gate or in a passage beside the stairs. Clear the way the evening before, especially if a car or a cycle stands in front of it.
Early starts suit Wilson Garden best. Once the neighbourhood wakes, a narrow lane with a vehicle in it becomes everyone's problem.
Old scooter and scooty shifting from a settled home
The bike with a forgotten bank on its RC is very often a scooter, the family runabout bought decades ago. It gets the same treatment on the vehicle as anything else, condition photos, padding at the mirrors and bars, layers of wrap and straps holding it upright, and being light it's normally the cheaper of the household's bikes to send.
Do check the scooter's other papers while you're at it. An insurance policy that lapsed years ago, or a pollution certificate long out of date, should be renewed before the scooter is ridden at the new address, wherever that is.
Look under the seat before it goes. Old family scooters are where documents get stored and then forgotten, and once in a while the missing closure letter turns up in there.
Bike and two wheeler transport from Wilson Garden
Most moves from here stay close, to Jayanagar, Richmond Town or Shanti Nagar, and those are done on the same day. For a run out of Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad are well served and the Kerala cities steadily, with smaller towns seeing fewer vehicles, which we'd tell you upfront.
Let the tank run low in the last few days, since it's emptied before loading. In the folder that travels with the bike, put a photocopy of the registration, one of the owner's identity card, and if you have it, the bank's closure letter. The originals stay at home.
We'll look at the bike, on video if that's easier, and send a firm price in writing with GST before you book. The arrival date is set before the bike leaves. For the household side of a Wilson Garden move, see our packers page.
