Bike Shifting in Marathahalli

Most bikes leaving Marathahalli don't start on a main road. They're parked in a lane off Varthur Road or on the old village side, nose to tail with everyone else's under a PG building, and the carrier that's meant to take them can't get anywhere near. So the first part of the job is a short walk, the bike wheeled out to a stretch of road where a vehicle can actually pull in, and only then does the loading start.

That walk is easy to plan and very annoying to improvise. If we know the lane before the day, the crew turns up knowing where the carrier will stand, how far the bike has to go and whether the owner needs to be downstairs with the key or can leave it with the warden. If we don't, someone ends up reversing a vehicle down a street it was never going to fit, and that's how a twenty minute pickup eats the morning.

Why the carrier waits on the bigger road

Marathahalli is really two places. The main roads have the large complexes, wide gates and visitor bays. Behind them, off Varthur Road and round the old village, the streets narrow down to something a car can just about pass if nobody's parked on either side, which they always are. A vehicle carrying bikes needs room to stop, drop a ramp and turn around afterwards, and most of those lanes simply don't have it.

So for a pickup from the lane side we pick a meeting point first. Usually it's the nearest road wide enough to stand on for fifteen minutes without blocking a bus, sometimes it's the gate of a bigger building nearby if their security will allow it. The bike gets pushed or ridden there by the crew, wrapped where it stands and loaded from that spot.

Timing matters more than distance here. The flyover and the ORR junction under it are fine at seven in the morning and hopeless by ten, and a carrier stuck in that traffic is a carrier that isn't at your lane. Early slots are what we offer first for this side of Marathahalli, Sunday mornings are the other quiet window.

One small thing that helps a lot. Send us a pin, not just the address. PG buildings off the village side often share a door number with three others and a pin dropped where the bike actually stands saves a phone call and a lot of wandering.

Getting the bike out of a PG or an ORR tower

A PG stilt floor is usually packed solid, and the bike you want is never the one at the front. If the owner isn't going to be there on the day, leave the key with the warden or a flatmate and tell them which bikes might need nudging. The crew won't move other people's vehicles without someone from the building saying it's fine, so a quick word with the warden the evening before is worth more than any instruction we can give.

The towers on the main roads are a different job. At Purva Riviera, Purva Fountain Square and the Divyasree towers the bike sits in a basement and the carrier stays outside, the ramps and headroom are against it. Security will want to know a vehicle is leaving that isn't being ridden out by its owner, so a note to the facility desk with the bike number and the pickup time stops the gate turning into a long conversation.

Either way the bike is photographed before anything goes on it, scratches and all, and you get those pictures. It's the same check at the other end.

Scooty and scooter shifting from the PG lanes

If there's one two-wheeler Marathahalli has more of than any other, it's the gearless scooty. Plenty of people living in the PGs here bought one to get to an ORR office and never needed anything bigger, and when the job or the lease ends it's the first thing they want sent home. A scooter gets the same layers of wrap and the same strapping as a motorcycle does, it just weighs less and takes less room, which is why it normally comes in slightly cheaper on the same route.

Empty the boot. It sounds obvious and it's the most common miss we see, a helmet, a raincoat, the spare key and a folder of papers all sitting under the seat. Those should travel with you, not with the scooter.

Fuel is the other one. The tank is drained before loading anyway, so filling up the week before the move is money you'll watch being poured out.

Bike and two wheeler transport out of Marathahalli

A lot of the bikes we collect here are leaving the city altogether, an IT contract finished, the next job in Hyderabad or Chennai, or simply home to Kerala for good. Marathahalli is a decent place to start that journey from. Heading for Chennai or Hyderabad, the carrier gets onto Old Madras Road by way of KR Puram and never has to cross the middle of Bangalore, and those routes run often enough that a bike doesn't sit around waiting for company.

Smaller towns are slower. A carrier going to a district town needs enough bikes heading that way to make the trip, and we'll say so when we quote instead of letting you discover it. The delivery date is committed before the bike is loaded, and the price comes as one written figure on GST after a free survey, which for a single bike is usually a few minutes on a video call.

Carry a copy of the RC and your ID. If the bike isn't registered in your name, a sale receipt or a short letter from the person it belongs to is enough, carriers crossing a state border do get stopped and matching papers keep that stop short.

When the whole flat is going too

If you're moving house as well, the bike can ride on the same vehicle as everything else and sit on the same quote. The household side, the lifts, the society slots and the traffic, is covered on our Marathahalli packers page. This page is only about the two-wheeler.

FAQ

Bike and Scooty Shifting in Marathahalli, answered

It depends on where it's going and what the bike is. A move inside Bangalore is a short job and priced like one, a run to Chennai or Hyderabad costs more and a small town further off more again. Tell us the bike, the lane or society and the destination and after a quick survey we'll put a single price in writing, billed on GST.

Yes. The carrier usually can't come into the lane itself, so we agree a point on a wider road nearby and the crew wheels or rides the bike out to it. Send us a pin of where the bike is parked and we'll tell you the meeting point before the day.

All the time, the scooty is probably the most common thing we collect here. It's wrapped and strapped exactly like a motorcycle and, being lighter and smaller, usually costs a little less on the same route.

Not if someone else has the key. Leave it with the warden or a flatmate, tell us their number, and let them know the crew is coming. We'll send you the pickup photos so you can see the condition it left in.

Yes, those are two of the routes we run most. From here the carrier joins Old Madras Road through KR Puram, so it's on its way without crossing the city. The delivery date is fixed before loading.

It can, the Kerala routes run often. If home is a smaller town rather than a city, the wait for a carrier can be a little longer, and we'll tell you that at the quote rather than after.

Honestly, for a hop across to Kundalahalli on a bike you ride every day, riding it is fine. A carrier makes sense when you've only just bought the bike and haven't really ridden it, when it isn't in your name yet, or the other address is right across the city through the junction at its worst.

Almost never. Basement ramps and headroom in the Marathahalli towers aren't built for it, so the crew walks the bike up the ramp and loads it outside the gate, or in a visitor bay if the society has one. A note to your facility desk saves time at the gate.

A copy of the RC and your ID. Keep the originals with you. If the RC shows someone else's name, add the sale receipt, or a signed note from that person saying the bike is with you.

No, leave it low. The fuel is drained before the bike goes on the vehicle, so anything you put in that week is wasted.
