Bike Transport Services in Doddanagamangala

Doddanagamangala, beside Electronic City Phase 2, is home to many people working for global companies, and some of them eventually move abroad: an onsite posting, a transfer to a head office, a fresh job overseas. The flat is given up, the furniture is sold or stored, and the bike needs somewhere to go.

Selling is one option. But many people would rather keep the bike in the family, sending it to parents or a sibling elsewhere in India, ready for whenever they visit or come back. That works well, as long as the papers and the authority are sorted before you board the plane.

Sell it, store it or send it?

If you won't be back for years, selling might make sense. A well-kept bike sells easily in Bangalore, and you avoid managing it from abroad.

If you'll be back in a year or two, or the family will genuinely use it, sending it home is better. A bike that's ridden regularly stays healthy; one that sits in a storage unit for two years needs work when you return.

If nobody at home will ride it, think twice. A bike standing unused in a parent's courtyard for years isn't much better off than one in storage. In that case, a sale may be kinder to the bike.

Whatever you decide, decide early. The weeks before an international move are busy with visas, notice periods and goodbyes, and the bike is easy to leave until it's too late.

If you're selling, do it with time to spare. Finish the ownership transfer before you fly, so a buyer's traffic fine or accident can never come back to you while you're abroad. A sale where the papers are still in your name is a risk you'll be carrying from another country.

Giving the family authority

Once you're abroad, you won't be there to sign for anything. Give whoever will receive and look after the bike a signed letter authorising them to receive it, ride it and deal with routine paperwork such as insurance renewals and servicing.

Leave them copies of the RC, the insurance policy, the pollution certificate and your ID. Decide where the originals go: with them, or with you. If they'll be renewing insurance or handling a traffic stop, the originals are more useful with them.

If the bike will be ridden by someone else permanently, consider transferring the ownership to them before you go. It's the cleanest option, and it means they don't need your signature from another time zone.

If you're keeping ownership, make sure the insurance covers whoever will ride it, and that renewal reminders reach them. Update the policy's contact details to theirs, or set yourself a calendar reminder abroad.

Write down where everything is: which drawer holds the original RC, which folder has the insurance, which mechanic knows the bike. Send that note to the family with the photos. It's the kind of thing nobody thinks of until the first renewal comes round.

If the bike is in your spouse's name and you're both moving abroad, the same applies to them: a signed authority, ID copy, and the originals left with the family.

Collecting in Doddanagamangala

Doddanagamangala has a mix of apartment complexes and smaller buildings, with some narrow inner roads. A carrier usually waits on a wider road while the bike is ridden out; in the gated complexes, it's brought up from the basement to the gate.

If you're out of the flat already and staying in a hotel near the airport for your last nights, the bike can still be collected from the old address, or from a friend's place, as long as someone with the key is there.

The crew photographs the bike from all angles before wrapping. Send those photos to the family, along with a short note about anything they should know: a sticky brake, a tyre due for replacement, when the next service is.

Book the pickup at least a few days before your flight. If something comes up, there's still time to rearrange.

A last ride is worth taking. Plenty of people leaving India for a long posting say the final evening ride around Electronic City is one of the things they remember.

Scooty shifting before you move abroad

Scooters often go to a mother or a sister who'll use them for errands around town. They travel on the carrier exactly as motorcycles do and usually cost a little less to send.

Give the scooter a service before it goes, if you can. It's much easier to arrange in Bangalore while you're here than from abroad.

Clear the seat box, and make sure both keys go to the family. A spare key left in a drawer in an empty Bangalore flat helps nobody.

If the scooter will be the family's only two-wheeler at home, show the receiver where the fuel tank opens, how the seat unlocks and where the papers are kept, on a video call after delivery. Small things are hard to explain from abroad later.

Bike transport from Doddanagamangala to your family

Parents might be in Kolkata, Lucknow, Kochi or a small town in between. Big cities are routine; a smaller place may wait for a truck going that way. Either way, ask for the arrival date when you book and pass it to the family before you fly.

Ask the family for a pin, a landmark and two phone numbers. If you're abroad by delivery day, they'll be the only ones the crew can call.

Let the tank run down beforehand, since the fuel is drained before loading. The survey is free and the written price, with GST, doesn't change. For packing up the rest of the flat, see our Electronic City Phase 2 packers page.

Before you leave, show the family a quick video of the bike starting and running, so they know how it sounded on its last day in Bangalore.
