Bike Shifting in Kothanur
Kothanur sits at the top of Hennur Road, among new apartment projects, older village lanes and a scatter of colleges. Every year a new batch of students arrives, a lot of them from other cities and states, and a lot of them would very much like their scooty from home. Getting round the north-east without one means autos, long waits and a good deal of walking.

Sending a scooty to a first-year student is a simple job, as long as two things are sorted first. Where it will live, and who will receive it if the student is in class when it arrives.
Sort the parking before the scooty arrives
Hostels and PGs near the colleges vary a lot on parking. Some have a covered stilt with room for every resident, some have a strip by the gate that fills up in the first week, and some have nothing at all. Find out before the scooty leaves home. A first-year student with a wrapped scooty on the pavement and nowhere to put it is a stressful first week nobody needs.
A cover is worth buying. Student parking around the colleges is often open to the sky, and a scooty left uncovered through a Bangalore monsoon fades and rusts faster than you'd think.
If the hostel doesn't allow vehicles, which a few don't, look at a nearby PG, a relative's flat or a paid spot in one of the newer apartment projects. We can deliver to whichever address it ends up being, as long as someone can receive it.
Also ask about the college's own rules. Some campuses need a parking sticker or registration for student vehicles, and that's easier sorted before the scooty arrives than after.
Timing it to the start of term
There's no point the scooty arriving before the student does. Most families plan for it to land a week or so into term, once the student has settled, found their way around and knows exactly where it'll be parked.
If the student will be in lectures on the delivery day, name someone else to receive it, a warden, a relative in Bangalore, a senior student they trust. That person checks it against the pickup photos and signs. The photos go to the parents too.
Some families prefer to drive down with the student and bring the scooty in the same week. If you're coming by car and staying a few days, the scooty can be timed to arrive while you're still in Bangalore, so you can see it parked and checked before you head home.
Start-of-term weeks are busy, so book once the date is known. The arrival day is set before loading, so the student can plan around it.
Getting to the top of Hennur Road
Kothanur is still filling in. Some of the newer projects have approach roads that aren't quite finished, and the older village lanes are narrow. Where the vehicle can't reach the gate, it stops on finished road and the scooty is wheeled the rest of the way.
College gates themselves can be busy at the start and end of the day, with buses, autos and parents' cars. A delivery to a hostel beside a campus is easier mid-morning, once classes have started, than at nine when everyone's arriving.
Hennur Road thickens toward the ORR at office peaks. A delivery coming up from the city is planned to reach Kothanur before or after that wave.
Scooty shifting for a first-year student
A gearless scooty is the classic student bike, light, easy to learn and cheap to run, and it's also the least expensive two-wheeler to send. On our vehicle it's handled no differently from a motorcycle, photographed, padded at the bars and mirrors, wrapped and strapped upright.
Parents usually own the scooty on paper. That's fine. The scooty's envelope should hold a photocopied RC, the parent's identity card copied too, and a few signed lines confirming their child is the one riding it. The student should keep a copy of the note too, for the times they're stopped on the road.
Riding in a new city is its own thing. If the student has only ridden at home, a few quiet days around Kothanur's lanes before taking the scooty onto Hennur Road at rush hour is time well spent. A helmet that actually fits, too.
Check the insurance runs for the whole academic year. Renewing from another city is easy enough, but it's one more thing a first-year student will forget.
Bike and two wheeler transport to and from Kothanur
Most scooties coming to Kothanur's colleges come from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra or elsewhere in Karnataka. The larger cities on those routes are covered regularly. Small home towns can need a longer wait, and we'll tell you that when quoting.
If the scooty is coming a long way, a few days of slack between its arrival day and the first day of classes is sensible. Nobody wants to start college on a bus because a carrier to a small home town was slow to fill.
Bikes leave Kothanur too, at the end of a course or when a family moves out of one of the new projects. Local moves, to Hennur, Thanisandra or Kalyan Nagar, are short. Longer ones head out by the ORR and the airport corridor.
The tank is drained before loading. The price is put in writing with GST after a free survey, and if a family's flat is moving rather than a student's scooty, the Kothanur packers page covers that.
