Bike Shifting in BTM 2nd Stage

BTM 2nd Stage is packed with PGs, most of them independent houses that grew extra floors and a lot of tenants. What they rarely grew was parking. The front yard holds ten or twelve bikes in two tight rows, the gate opens onto a cross road with cars on both sides, and whoever parked last is at the front.

If your bike is at the back of that yard, getting it onto a carrier is mostly a question of timing and a word with the people in front of you. Done early, before the shops on the main roads open and the delivery traffic arrives, it's quick. Left until mid-morning, it's a small traffic jam of its own.

Getting out of a PG front yard

Ask the PG owner or warden the day before. They've seen plenty of tenants leave and they usually have a way of doing it. They'll know whose bikes are parked where, and many PGs have a WhatsApp group where you can ask everyone in front of yours to move theirs before seven. Most will, especially if they're leaving for work early anyway.

If you can, move your own bike to the front of the yard the night before, once everyone else is in. That one step saves the crew rearranging half the yard while residents watch from the balcony.

Check the gate timing too. Some PGs lock the gate overnight and the warden opens it at a fixed hour. If that's later than the pickup, ask for it to be opened early, or for the key.

And clear anything of yours from the yard. A helmet left on a neighbour's bike, a cover on the wall, a shoe rack you've been using. It all needs sorting before you go anyway.

Where the carrier stands in BTM

On the wider main roads near the lake a carrier can usually stop for long enough to load a bike. Deep inside the cross roads, where parked cars leave a single lane, it can't stop without blocking everybody. In that case we agree a spot on the nearest main road, and you or one of the crew ride the bike round to it.

An early start makes all of this easier. By seven the cross roads are quiet, kerb space hasn't gone, and the eateries haven't started their deliveries. By ten it's a different place.

Getting out of BTM is the other half, and anyone who's tried driving to the ORR at nine knows why. Udupi Garden signal, Silk Board and the ORR feed are some of the slowest points in the city, and a carrier that's loaded early clears them before the office traffic does.

Papers and photos for a PG bike

Bikes in PG yards get knocked. A neighbour's footrest scrapes your panel, a scooter tips into your mirror, someone's cover rubs the paint. That's normal, and it's why the pickup photos matter. Every side of the bike is photographed before it's wrapped, and you should point out the marks you know about so they're on record.

For the trip, the crew carries photocopied papers, your registration certificate and your ID, never the originals. If the bike is registered to a parent back home, which is common with PG residents, add a short signed note from them saying it can be sent.

If you're moving from one PG to another in BTM or nearby, check with the new PG where your bike will park before it arrives. A new PG with no space is a problem better solved before the carrier turns up.

Scooty shifting from BTM 2nd Stage

Scooters make up a big share of every PG yard here. They're light enough for the crew to lift out of a tight row if one neighbour can't be reached, which is a real help. A heavy motorcycle needs the bikes in front of it moved.

Once out, a scooty gets the same handling as any bike, the bars and mirrors cushioned, the wrap on in layers and straps holding it upright, and it generally costs a bit less to send.

Empty the seat box completely before pickup. PG scooters have a way of collecting other people's things, a borrowed helmet, a flatmate's charger, a parcel nobody collected.

Bike and two wheeler transport from BTM

A lot of the bikes leaving BTM PGs are going home, to Chennai, Hyderabad or a town in Kerala, all of which have regular carriers. A smaller hometown can take longer to find a vehicle going there, and we'll be clear about that when we quote. The delivery date is set before loading, which helps when someone at home has to be there to take it.

Within Bangalore it's a same-day job, whether the next place is another PG in Koramangala, a flat on the ORR or a first proper apartment in Electronic City. Bike transport across the city from BTM is mostly about getting past Silk Board at the right hour.

Some PG residents leave Bangalore before the bike does, handing the key to a friend or the warden. That works fine, as long as they have the papers and a short note from you, and the pickup photos come to your phone wherever you are.

Run the tank low in the last few days, it's drained before loading. The price comes after a free survey, usually a quick video of the bike and the yard, as one firm written figure with GST. If you're also shifting the contents of a room or a flat, the BTM 2nd Stage packers page has the details.
